Activity 1: Assessment of Student Learning Outcome
Assessment has been a recent push at Ohio Northern University. The Division of Student Affairs created a programming assessment tool that measures if programming is meeting the institutional and divisional learning outcomes, core values, and strategic goals. Components of the assessment included reviewing the planning, results, and student evaluation of the program. In fall 2013, I worked to complete the Division of Student Affairs programming assessment for two campus-wide events, the Interfraternity Council Leadership Day and Up Til Dawn’s All Night Challenge. I openly shared the results with the student organizations. The student organizations incorporated the feedback in their planning for next year’s event. They worked to clearly align the event with the institution's core values and strategic goals.

Activity 2: EDFI 6420- Research in Education
In the EDFI 6420 course, I engaged in both qualitative and quantitative research. I learned a variety of research designs including experimental, correlational, ethnographic, and mixed methods. I created a formal research proposal using a mixed qualitative and quantitative research approach, which focused on universities’ retention initiatives for underrepresented students. The formal research proposal served as a tangible example of my knowledge gained within the course.
